Common Questions About Sleep Health

When should I see a sleep specialist?

You should consider seeing a specialist if you consistently struggle to fall or stay asleep, feel excessively tired during the day despite adequate time in bed, or if a partner notices loud snoring or gasping during sleep. Early intervention is key to preventing long-term health complications.

Do I need a sleep study?

Not every patient requires a formal sleep study. Our fellowship-trained physician begins with a thorough clinical history. Depending on your symptoms, we may recommend either a home sleep apnea test or an in-lab polysomnogram to gather detailed data on your sleep architecture.

What if I’ve already tried CPAP and it didn't work?

Many patients find CPAP challenging at first. We specialize in CPAP desensitization and optimization, helping you find a more comfortable mask or adjusting pressure settings. If CPAP is ultimately not for you, we can coordinate alternative therapies like dental appliances or surgical consultations.

Can poor sleep affect my heart or mood?

Absolutely. Untreated sleep disorders are closely linked to hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic changes. Sleep is also foundational for mental health; chronic sleep deprivation often worsens anxiety, depression, and cognitive function.

How long does it take to see improvements?

Improvement varies by condition. While CPAP users often feel more alert within a few days, behavioral strategies for insomnia (CBT-I) typically take several weeks to produce sustained results. We work with you at every step to monitor progress and adjust your personalized plan.

Is your physician board-certified?

Yes. Our clinic is led by a fellowship-trained, board-certified sleep medicine physician. This ensures that your care is based on the highest clinical standards and the latest research in the field of sleep medicine.
